Resolved Question

AVG Free 2012 Installation Problem

Oct 16, 2011 10:00PM PDT

I have used AVG Free for a number of years without any problems. However, I can't get 2012 to install. Have tried using the removal tool and loading the avg free x86 all2012 1831 94535.exe version. It gets so far and then just hangs. Goes through Initializing,Copying files, Configuring Product, Initializing, Preparing, Deleting Services, Uninstalling, Preparing, Creating Folders, Configuring Product and Copying Files at which point it just stops. I'm stuck! Any ideas?

Installation Error
Oct 18, 2011 5:23AM PDT

Hello Ondrej,

I have diabled Counterspy, Trusteer Rapport and Spyzooka and completely uninstalled Radialpoint Security Services (I hpoe), which I didn't even know was on the computer and run the removal tool.

Attempted to install avg free x86 all2012 1831 94535.exe, but didn't get as far as last time. Immediately got a setup error, Error Code 0xC0070643.

Have uploaded the installation logs: reference CNET_Forum_Mariner12933.7z

Still Having Problems
Oct 19, 2011 5:12AM PDT

Hello Ondrej,

Been through the steps you listed and uploaded various outputs as CNET_Forum_MarinerA12308.7z.

Memory Test seemed to be fine. Have attached the Ckkdsk files. Tried latest version of MSInstaller.

Attempted to install avg free x86 all2012 1831 94535.exe, but Immediately got a setup error, Error Code
0xC0070643. Then tried the CNET download. This went through various stages: Initializing, copying etc as above then this returned Error Code
0xC0070643.

Then tried GMER 15. First time locked up after a few minutes, then ran for several hours before a message came up "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Have attached a log from GMER 14.

Installation logs would not run so I provided MFA and MSI logs. Tried again to install and this time got as far as Copying Files before the machine just hang. However, an installation log was produced this time and is with the attachments.

Regards,

Andy

Hello MarinerA12,

From latest msinfo output I can see that there are still running CounterSpy, Trusteer Raport, Spyzooka and Virgin media Security Services.

For help on your situation please completely uninstall all of them - please read this post for more information.

Thank you

Uninstall
Oct 20, 2011 4:39AM PDT

Hello,

I have uninstalled all the software as described above. I thought Virgin Media Security had been completely uninstalled previously, but obviously not.

Cleared out all traces of AVG then attempted to install avg free x86 all2012 1831 94535.exe version. It gets so far and then
just hangs. Goes through Initializing,Copying files, Configuring
Product, Initializing, Preparing, Deleting Services, Uninstalling,
Preparing, Creating Folders, Configuring Product and Copying Files. Exactly as in first post. Windows Task Managershows 99% CPU usage on Taskbar Installation and the only way to free up the system is to press the reset button.

I have uploaded latest installation logs and Msinfo under CNET_AVG_Forum_MarinerA12438.7z

Installation issues
Oct 20, 2011 8:06AM PDT

Hello MarinerA12,

Please also try to uninstall Sunbelt Firewall prior to next installation attempt.
Make sure that folder c:\program files\sunbelt software\personal firewall\ was completely removed.

Then proceed as follows:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
Select the key, and then press DELETE. Click Yes to confirm the delete operation.
On the Registry menu, click Exit to quit the Registry Editor.

Afterwards restart your computer and proceed with full reinstallation instructions again.
When installing, please choose NOT to install AVG toolbar.

Provide us with fresh installation log files and MSinfo output should the installation fail again.

Thank you

Problem Solved
Oct 20, 2011 11:03PM PDT

Hello,

The last piece of advice seems to have done the trick and the product has now installed satisfactorily.

However, the registry key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress did not exist, so I was unable to delete it.

Must have been uninstalling the firewall, which is not ideal, or not installing the toolbar which was the answer and I think it is more probably the latter.

Anyway, many thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Andy

Firewall
Oct 21, 2011 12:52AM PDT

Hello MarinerA12,

You could try to reinstall the firewall or install other firewall solution.
Sunbelt Firewall has reached its End-Of-Life and is no longer supported.

Thank you
