AVG Anti-Spyware is "Grey" & Won't stay on task bar?

The AVG Free Edition has no resident shield (active blocker) and therefore no need for it to stay on the taskbar. It just scans and nothing else. You can open the AVG app and click on the Shield at top of app for explanation.

you loose the "automatic Update" function but you can manually update by opening program from desktop icon and click "update now" while on the net.
You also lose the background running guard so it becomes only a manual scanner & remover. Still a very extensive data base of threats it can deal with (heading toward a million) & well worth keeping if you don't want to pay for license (which would give you back the full version).
You can enter the license # at any time once you've paid.
The lack of sys tray icon indicates no longer active in background & the grey desktop icon indicates same. Hope this helps.
