AVG and AVAST

Oct 15, 2008 3:15AM PDT

For the past few days AVG wouldn't update on my Vista Home Premium system. The icon was grey and when I tried to manually update, it said the program was already running (I kept it on all day long with no change and even had to use task manager to shut AVG down.) Today I installed Avast free version and uninstalled AVG. So far so good. I left the program way it came without setting anything up or modifying it. Hope this will take care of general av needs on the computer.

AVG and Avast

Avast should work just fine for you, and is better than AVG.

There were quite a few people that switched to Avast (myself included) when AVG 8 came out. AVG has had it's problems.

Avast seems to run very smoothly in the background. I've been so used to AVG that it seems strange having something different, but AVG seemed to be slowing my computer down a lot as it scanned. I don't even notice anything is scanning with Avast.

As another poster said, you have to register once a year which is no problem.
Also if you have the sound turned on Avast will popup down by the clock and tell you it is updated.

Just a reminder

Avast will run as though it's a trial version for 60 days (IIRC) then require yearly registration. The registration is straightforward and free.
Also a happy Avast user.
