AVG 2011 Free Edition

Dec 7, 2010 12:31AM PST

I recently loaded the free version of AVG 2011 which has been working very well..until today when a message appeared 'your system needs to close to complete update'. On closing and rebooting I see that no update has taken place and eventually the same message appears 'your system needs to close..etc'. I'm in a loop that won't clear itself. I'm running 'Vista Home Premium' on a 32bit Windows system. I've tried restore to no avail. I've tried to uninstall AVG 2011 but no luck. I've even tried reinstalling AVG 2011 again hoping this would get rid of the problem, but again no joy....Be gentle with me in your answers as I'm way down the ladder when it comes to computer technology/jargon, but your help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks for your prompt reply.
I've saved the 'screenshot' to desktop but can't see any way of attaching to reply.
The message appears to be AVG in origin rather than windows.
I've tried full reinstallation but this aborts about half way through and have tried to 'uninstall' using windows programme 'uninstaller'. You mention a 'remover' is this something different which I could try?

Again, many thanks for your patience

Regards,

Peter

Hello,

You can upload the screenshot to some free online imagehost website, e.g.: http://tinypic.com/ or http://imgur.com/
And provide us with a link to the screenshot afterwards.

About the remover, it can be found here:
http://www.avg.com/ww-en/download-tools
First two entries, use one that works on your system (32/64bit).

Please follow all steps mentioned in already linked full reinstallation instructions.

Thank you

Many thanks,

I've located the 'remover' and successfully removed AVG 2011 and re-installed, although I didn't understand the bits about deleting lines so decided not play around in this area (I'm not even sure how to get to this part of the system).

Everything seems to be OK now with the full re-installation and unless you feel I might be storing up trouble for the future by not deleting the 'lines' as you mention, I'm inclined to let things rest where they are.

Again,

Many thanks and all the best to the team.

Regards,

Peter.
