Hello PC_illiterate,
please follow completely this re-installation procedure from AVG Free Forums (especially the folder removal).
What is the current situation?
Thank you
Hello,
I am new to the forums. I have an HP pavillion dv2000 windows vista laptop. I've had AVG 9 anti-virus free for a little under a year.
Well what happened was...it was time to download AVG 11! On the 29th of November i did so. I chose the 30 days free trail version of the AVG 11 knowing that i could switch back basic free. Things started out smoothly. It uninstalled AVG9 and continued on until a message said I'd have to restart the system in order to complete the process. I restarted, waited then Opened my firefox browser and searched downloads for AVG 11. clicked on it and the process continued. It again told me to restart my system. I did so more than 10 times.( Oh right, just before the very first restart for AVG11, a message popped up briefly which i only had a glimpse of said something about 64-bit and 32 bit. )
Now, what bothered me the most was, i no longer had anti-virus protection. AVG9 was uninstalled and AVG 11 won't install. So, my next step was probably Shtupid...i did system restore hoping it would restore my laptop to the way it was before. Next thing i know, the AVG 9 icon is back and i was relieved...until, the bottom right corner of the task bar pops up a message that tells me my virus protection is turned off. I see AVG, tried to turn it on but it doesn't seem to recognize the software. I then try to open AVG9 but nothing happens. I realized it's a dead icon...I then attempt to download AVG11 again. It says i first have to remove AVG9...which I can't. Now I'm stuck with no virus protection and no way to resolve the problem. If anyone has a similar experience or knows of a way to resolve the issue please help! >.< Thank you!
