Question

Average duration of CHKDSK boot?

Oct 28, 2018 10:44AM PDT

I force-dismounted the bootdrive for a chkdsk scan and repair. The scan would've taken around 3-4 hours to complete (I left after 30 minutes, agreeing on coming back on monday). I unfortunately don't have the specific specs but I think it's a 256GB regular SSD. What are average durations of the boot section of the chkdsk repairs?

I did research, but I can't find anything usefull.

The results I found were either between 20 minutes or 48 hours (for full scan AND boot) for a disk of the same size. I was hoping to get a better number. 256 GB ssd's are really common so I figured somebody would know a more specific number, than a maximum number 144 times bigger than the minimum.

That's about the right range.

But I had a laptop with a bad HDD and the surface scan was estimated to be over a month.

In that case I sent them to a shop with a very very special tool. Here's the video on that.

Answer
before I moved to Linux

....while using windows OS, I would set power settings to NOT turn off the computer, then start the chkdsk and go to bed, because it could take so long and that was with a 100 GB HDD.
