avast! vs. avg

I am about to get a new computer with windows xp home, 1gb ram, pentium 4 640 processor, and 250gb memory.

I was wondering which av program is better for detection, deletion, speed, doesn't hog memory resources, updates, and anything else vital for an antivirus program. Which in your opinion is better and why?

very well, and is a choice of yours, i use AVG and have used Avast!, really, it was a choice to go back to AVG having used it for years, and was used to it, but was more then satisfied with Avast! both are highly recommended so which ever you choose will be a great choice.

If you type avast vs avg and/or avg vs avast into the search box it should bring up several hits. This has been discussed in great lengths and may help you decide.

However I personally think dyspyz has summed up all of the related posts very well and is the bottom line.

As both are free and both work very well you might even want to try each and then decide?

Best wishes!

I use both

In reply to: avast! vs. avg

I use both. I have a 800mh processor and 512 SDRAM. I noticed a big difference after I got rid of Norton. AVG free will do a scheduled full system scan at a specified time everyday where Avast will not. For a full system scan, you have to manually do it. Also remember if you use Avast you have to put in the exclusion the ActiveScan folder and C:/_Restore folder or it will disable the ActiveScan from Panda Software(if you use it)
