Avast Home Edition

A dumb question, I fear, but bear with me! I have just downloaded antivirus software Avast Home Edition on to my laptop, using Windows Vista. I have restarted the laptop, but if I check Control Panel - Security, it says I now have no virus protection. And I cannot find the program if I look at the list in 'All Programs'. I have done a second download, but there is no changs.

Have I done something wrong?

Thanks for any advice.

The download folder?

In reply to: No....

You've download the installer of Avast! Please try to check the download folder in Vista e.g. "C:\Users\Your Windows Account username here\Downloads" folder
If you will see the avast set-up file, double-click it to start installing the antivirus program.

If it's not in that folder, try re-download but save it on your desktop. Proceed to install by running or opening the downloaded file (avast installer)

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
