Question

Avast 2014

Jan 25, 2014 10:22AM PST

I want to install the 2014 version of avast antivirus on my 64 bit Windows 7 computer. Should I uninstall the old version first? Or wait until the new one is installed and running?

Answer
Clean install

If this is the "free version" you can uninstall and then reboot and install 2014 version. While you can update provided it prompts you, it maybe better to flat uninstall and then install. You can use the awclear pgm. provided by Avast for this purpose at support to d/l it.. If you have the paid version then Avast support should guide you through this process or follow instruction they post.

BTW, if you install 2014 and then register it and you had time remaining on your "paid" version of an older Avast it should update and if need be re-enter your registration key to get that time running again. Check the registration icon when you install 2014.

How do I register?
Jan 25, 2014 5:29PM PST

Thank you for your post. By the time I saw it I had already downloaded the 2014 version, and it installed with no problems, and automatically uninstalled the old version. I don't remember ever registering the old version, and the new one didn't prompt me to register it. How should I go about this?. Both the old and new installs are the free versions, if it is important

To register

As a free version, you have some allocated time to use it, it will during the end period of 30-days or less certainly prompt you to register. You can register now using the lf. side icons, find the "gear looking icon" and click on it should show yet more lf. side icons, thus click on registration. Fill-out the mini-form and get a full yr. of the freebie. Of course it will display all versions, just click on the free one. FYI, if you like it sometime later is will probably prompt you with promo ads for a reduced price for some paid version. click further if you want it, otherwise decline.
