Question

A/V Idiot Here...Could Use a Little Help

Mar 15, 2017 1:14PM PDT

Hi. I am sure this question will be easy for everybody, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out and have been looking online for 4 days now to find a definitive solution. I have very basic equipment, nothing nice at all. I simply want sound from my fire tv (NOT firestick) and XBOX one to come out of my 2.1 sound "system" via Optical/HDMI (hope that made sense)

My equipment is as follows:
- Samsung TV - 2 x HDMI inputs & 1 x Optical output
- DVD Player/receiver "sound system" - 1 HDMI Input & 1 x Optical output (old crappy 2.1 system)
- Fire TV - 1 x HDMI Output
- XBOX One - 1 x HDMI Input & 1 x HDMI output & 1 x Optical Output

So, that's it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

While I could write about some hdmi audio extractor, etc, the problem is the missing model numbers of TV and DVD player. Even so, supply the manual to the DVD player for members to see what options it has.

For the HT, I'll use this manual.

The good news is this model does have both Optical and analog stereo inputs.
The HDTV has optical output so we use the optical connection from the TV to the HT.
BE SURE TO SET THE TV and other devices to send Stereo, PCM only.

Now the Fire and the Xbox to the TV HDMI inputs, you fiddle with settings and we are down.

Since the TV only has 2 HDMI inputs you either get some HDMI switch box or decide what you want to use today.

I dont use the DVD player to view anything
Mar 15, 2017 2:52PM PDT

I don't use the DVD player to watch movies or anything, so I am not worried about viewing anything at all with it....I just need it for the audio. With that in mind, I would not need to get a HDMI switch, correct?

You mentioned analog inputs, how/with what do I connect those to/with?

Thanks for your help!

Since you only use other than the DVD player

Then you are done. I was typing as I read specs, so no need for the analog input on the HT.
