under forum info you can track that way
There may be a few exceptions, but I would think that as a rule when a person opens a thread he will want to see replies to it. Perhaps you could have an automatice subscription to the post opening a thread.

The original point, the lead subject of this thread, was "Automatic subscription"
It is a great idea.
Actually it should be made as a selectable option in your Profile.
That way, if you wanted:
-----------------------------
When I enter a message I want
.
but that means people would have to read how to turn it on/off.
as it is they dont read this
"If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution."
which is right above here when they ask for help,
(The subject line is remotely little to do with what we're talking about, but I liked it anyway
)
Yeah, people would have to read how to turn it (other mode) but it is not much different than them not knowing how to subscribe now. You might say that the current presence of the [Subscribe] button now while reading a thread, but a radio button (*) could be provided next to a person entering a message. That button could be pre-set to the last setting used. That way a person could easily change the setting, and still have the [Subscribe] to manually make the selection too.
I love options.
As for the:
"If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (IE: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution."
I almost never tell people my OS, PC model, hardware, color of belly-button lint, etc. That is unless I feel it is pertinent to the problem at hand. Too many times I see people (the "helper bees") resist helping a person with problem "A" when they aren't told what is the color of the sky (or some other unrelated) item "2".
Yeah, it is really nice that the "helper bees" go about and try to help, and sometimes knowing the incidentals is important, but come on, don't drone on it. If you have an idea that might help, let's hear it, don't NOT say something just because you are needing some info. A clue now might be all that is needed.
