Resolved Question

Automatic start up and to factory condition : personal data

Aug 6, 2014 2:46AM PDT

Toshiba Satellite windows 8

1. Is it normal for a toshiba satellite with windows 8 to automatically start up when you open the laptop lid?

When I put my laptop back to factory conditions the laptop just restarted again from setting the language up.

[But I don't want it to start because I want to sell the laptop.Should I just let the power drain...]

2. Is it true after factory conditioning the laptop it's possible the person that buys it can try and recover data such as email logins ?

The default is that. Since the setting can move about, fish around on power setting.

2. YES. But very hard. For those that are concerned they usually take the drive to a shredder.

dd command in linux

You can run that across the entire drive and have it overwrite all in zeros or in random data. Another method is easier in which you keep copying a large video file to the free space on the hard drive till drive is maxed out, then do it again with a different video file. That overwrites everything at least twice and all anyone can recover is some movie.

Answer
preparing your PC for resale...
Aug 8, 2014 2:39AM PDT

Hi, when I wanted to sell my old PC I realized that I had to remove all my documents and programs and information so as no-one could access this info. I got 16G flash drives and removed all my information from my PC. that includes all the programs I installed and browsers, pass words etc. by the time I had finished there was precious little left- just the factory setting. I then set spyware etc programs to work, after that I removed those I paid for and left the factory originals. then I used the windows tools to remove any other fragments and defragmented the pc. only then did I set the PC back to factory settings.
replacing the info on your new PC is simple to do.
hope this helps
