Automatic log on to broadband Internet

Jun 11, 2008 4:37AM PDT

Mostly, when I boot up my PC and everything is loaded, it automatically logs on to my Internet Broadband Connection with Tiscali. I do not always want this and it can be annoying. Where can I look so as to stop this.
I have an Intel Dual Core processor, 2 gb Ram, XP-Pro with SP2. My ISP is Tiscali. Broadband

Yours, Ron Marshall

Stick a router inbetween?

Or use a firewall and set it to lock out the internet.

My quetion is the opposite to Ronmarhall's: I want to be able to log on automatically. How do I do this?

Just to add that I want specifically to log automatically on to my Tiscali email so that I don't have to tap in the password each time.
Thanks for any ideas.

Many thanks. Your suggestion is a very useful program but it won't do for my purpose. What I want is for the Tiscali password to be remembered. It is possible, because for a while I did have it(don't remember how that happened). And when I logged on to my email both the boxes were filled, the one with my email address and the one with my password.

That depends on your email program.

If I start Outlook Express (and I could do that automatically if I put a shortcut to it in my Startup group, but I didn't) it opens the inbox and starts receiving mail from all accounts I've marked for that action.

So either you have another email program, or you didn't configure it to start with the inbox, or you have no accounts marked for automatic synchronizing or your password saving mechanism is corrupted so that you have to type the password.
As I can't check your machine, that's all I can say at the moment.

Just in case it's a problem with saving your passwords in Outlook Express or Outlook, the possible solutions for that issue are mentioned in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684

Hope this helps,

Kees

Kees thank you. I actually use Tiscali for my email. But I will see if I can somehow get the Tiscali email to be activated from Startup.
