Autoconfiguration enabled in IPconfig

Apr 1, 2005 3:03AM PST

Cable Modem: Motorola sb5100 (DHCP enabled)
Router: Linksys befsr41 router (DHCP enabled)
P4-3.2ghz, Windows XP Pro-SP2, connected through ethernet card.

When I run IPConfig /all, I get;

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 02-90-HV-42-T2-69
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

and so on...

The question is about 'Autoconfiguration Enabled'...

I read in the manual, if shows, it indicate an error in connection from the modem to the pc (router) or DHCP didn't work as it supposed to be.

I've checked and replace all ethernet cable.. all in good condition.

I can connect to network and internet, with a freeze modem problem every a couple hours... and I have to restart the modem to reconnect.

is that the cause of freeze modem problem?
If so, how can I fix it?

Thank You

No more lockups. Swap out the router.

I'm not going to tell you that firmware must be the lastest either.

Even if I connected directly (modem to PC) .. the modem still freeze after a couple hours...

its a brand new modem (the first modem is replaced a couple weeks ago, because of the problem --- the ISP said the modem should be replaced--)

Oh, of course the router etc. is using the latest firmware..

tried everything ..(upto changing the modem).. one thing that still need to check.. the coax cable connection from the outside (from the ISP)

Thanks RP...

I've seen a few bury their cable modem and it overheats. Don't bury it. Point a fan and it and see if cooling it helps.

Best of luck.
