I just downloaded a program that does an XP security check on my pc.
It recommends that windows auto updates be turned off. I've also read elsewhere that this particular service creates a security vulnerability if left on.
The new MS updates are announced here and I usually go to the site and get them all at once anyway rather than take the dollops windows updating gives me (bigger updates take a week sometimes to get fully downlaoded-- I'd rather just go to the site and get them all at once). So, in essence I'm not getting a ton of benefit from auto update anyway.
What is the vulnerability? And, does a dilligent security-conscious person such as myself need it on and leave that vulnerability open if it is, indeed, real?
