Auto Shut Down on Win XP Home

by exsquid / February 4, 2006 11:10 PM PST

I installed Windows XP Home edition into my son's computer, and I would like some help on who to initialize the auto shutdown feature in it. I'm to lazy to turn it off manually. Thanx.

Here's how...
by John.Wilkinson / February 5, 2006 5:11 AM PST

I believe the following is what you're looking for:

* Go start->Control Panel->(Performance and Maintenance)->Power Options.
* Select the Power Schemes tab.
* Select a length of time from the drop-down menus (Monitor and hard disks).
* If the computer remains unused (o keyboard or mouse activity) for the designated period of time it will automatically shut down.
* Remember to save your files before leaving your computer as not all programs will automatically save.
* If you want the computer to be in a near-shut down state yet keep everything the way it was when you left you may want to check out the Standby and Hibernate options instead.
* On the Advanced tab make sure "prompt for password when computer returns from standby" is checked, for security reasons.
* On the Hibernate tab make sure "enable hibernation" is checked.

Hope this helps,
John

I'm looking for a way that XP Home shutdowns down automatically after you go to start, shutdown / turn off computer, etc. Right now it's telling me that it "is safe to shut your computer off". I need a way to by pass that and shuts down automatically. My other computer shuts down automatically, but it came w / XP Pro installed. Thanx.
