Auto Power Saving Setting

Jan 16, 2009 9:39PM PST

OK - I'm probably missing something easy here but I can't seem to select the "Auto" setting for the Energy Saving feature.

When I go into "Setup" -> "Energy Saving" -> "Off, Low, Med, High, Auto" I can select all the options EXCEPT "Auto".

Any ideas?? I have a Samsung LN52A860.

Thanks

Auto Power Saving Setting

Thanks!! I also tried turning on/off some of the optional features thinking that the "AUTO" Power Saving was somehow dependent on one of them. Couldn't find the magic combination to get the "AUTO" feature available as a choice.

Looking forward to hearing what you find out.

Auto Power Saving Setting

Samsund_HD_Tech,

Any info on the inability to choose "AUTO" as a power saving mode?? In another forum, someone mentioned that it was disabled in firmware version 1004 (which I have).

Thanks

Still waiting for a response on that...

That additional information is interesting. I'll have to see what we know about that. Thanks.

its firmware

samsung disabled the ability to change to the auto power setting for the 850/860 in firmware release 1004 and 1005. This was their bandaid to try and fix the IR interference with sat boxes. This issue also affected the black levels and increased clouding/flashlighting on this firmware. Most users agree that going back to 1002/1003 firmware is worth it just so they dont have such extreme clouding

Could be possible

That could very well be the reasonsing behind this.

I'm still waiting back on a response.

Any news yet??

Samsung_HD_Tech,

Did anyone in Samsung get back to you on this question?? Can you confirm that firmware version 1004 does, in fact, disable the "AUTO" setting in the Power Saving feature?? If it does, any idea if there are plans to reinstate it in a future firmware?

Thanks

(NT) Nope. I'll follow up again on Monday.

Disabled feature
Feb 9, 2009 5:52AM PST

I can't necessarily confirm that, but by all accounts I've been able to find, it seems that 1004 may be the culprit.

Internally, (until this thread) we were unaware of this development, so I'll be submitting that the feature be reinstated on a future firmware. I have no ETA, and will not know until it's actually released.

I imagine it will be taken seriously.

FIRMWARE 1004
Feb 27, 2009 5:30AM PST

I am currently on 1003 with my 52" 850. However I have the IR issue and have been recommended by Samsung CS to upgrade. Given the various posts on frimware 1004 the question is should I upgrade? or will I run in to the various quality issues and the disabling of features that people complain about?

Help? I'd like to understand what 1004 does. Customer support was not equipped to answer the question.
