auto cropping graphic files

Jan 4, 2008 2:12AM PST

ok so i took 3-4 boxes of my moms photos to a copy shop and they ganged up like 4-6 photos per scan for "pricing" since they got a
****** price of $1 per scan

so theres like 160 scans making 900ish photos and they saved each scan as a PDF. ( these people are noobs at digital anything.)
they are totally shuffled now and ungroup-able in present form.

i think the graphic file is extractable from the pdf no?
so now i need samrt auto crop or something to chop the scans up into individual photos most auto crop refernces on google refer to scanner level auto cropping and what i need is something that analyses the graghic file.
(and cuts it up somewhat accurately). based on gaps or photo borders or some
smart method thats not based on size or position since this is just a big photo soup
of big and little old and new b&w as well as the color.
i guess they could be marked and scripted to display mapped areas and organized.
another big job.

also looking for other forums on the subject if they are more popular or appropriate to the task.
thanks.

ok i didnt know ps did that.
thanks.
is there a way to feed it 160 scans to process in batch?
and will it save them with a similare base filename so i can manually verify them from the original scan?

also still need to know what PDF does to the graphic file and is it fully recoverable as a popular graphic format or will PS work on pdf? does the photo have the full rez or compressed /reduced in any way when made into PDF?

PDF = great way to lose the picture.

Sorry if this sounds like I'm in a fowl mood but I wouldn't do that *ever!

As to batch, well yes but that's something of a programmer's job so you might want to consider more research or just work through it.

perhaps you didnt read the part where i said it was already done that way.

so my later question again.. does adobe bork the graphic file when converting to pdf or is the photo in there as a good .jpg or other simply to be extracted.

the work has already been done that way i just need to determine if it is salvageable or must be redone.
