Auto Arrange

Auto Arrange keeps coming up all the time.
How can I set the default so that it does not appear
unless I want it.

Auto arrange what?

The desktop and taskbar both have (separate) auto-arrange functionality but a window doesn't pop up regarding either being performed. Could you clarify what functionality, exactly, you wish to disable?

Auto Arrange
Feb 14, 2008 1:13AM PST

I have gone through all my personal folders and have unchecked
auto arrange. I have opened some of these folders at a later
date and auto arrange is ticked. Not all folders are changed.

I have noticed that if you drag a folder to the desktop its
content changes inside. For example the size of the file or
picture, from small icon to large icon and auto arrange is ticked.

This happen as soon as I installed vista on a blank hard drive.
One other item in Control Panel in folder options I unchecked
"Remember each folder's view settings?.

After spending many hours yesterday, I think I have found the answer.
I checked "Remember each folder's view settings?.

Open a folder and fix it the way you want it.
Then go to Folder Options Open ?How do I change folder options?.
Read the first tip

1. Apply the current view settings (such as List, Details, or Large Icons) to all of the folders on your computer of this same type, such as the Documents, Pictures, or Music folders.

2. Click the View tab, and then click "Apply to Folders". (To switch these folders back to their default settings, click Reset Folders.)

It seems to be working.

I have two other hard drives and it works also.
