All of a sudden my win xp HP Pavillion machine stopped running games or playing DVDs automatically when a disc was inserted. Now I have to click on the appropriate shortcut tp make things work. can someone help me get it back the way it used to be?

See if htis works:

Right-click the DVD-Rom Drive | Properties | click Auto Play tab.

Now set it as you wish.
