Audio upgrade for 2001 Honda Civic EX sedan

I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX sedan that runs fine. I'd like to upgrade the audio, either with a new head unit OR by adding an iPod Interface. I use my iPod to listen to various tech podcasts including your show. I have heard or read that the factory electronic door locks run through the factory radio (for some odd reason). The lock system runs fine and I'm not interested in loosing that capability. Can I upgrade the head unit, or do I really have to use an iPod interface to keep the door locks and add the iPod? I gave up on head units. I have been looking at the USA SPEC PA11-HON iPod interface or the Scosche IPFMRDS. Is there a better solution to give me what I want?
