Audio Recording - Bitrates, etc...

Jan 11, 2005 12:48AM PST

Does anyone know how the bit rate of an audio recording (I'm thinking of buying a JetAudio iAudio U2, the specs are listed here: http://reviews.cnet.com/JetAudio_iAudio_U2__1GB__Platinum_Black_/4507-6490_7-31129769.html?tag=tab )
determines how long the recording can be? I'm thinking of picking up the above mp3 player, and would also like to use it to record the audio from my college class, which lasts about 2.5 hours. I can definitely start and stop the recording at various times during the class, but I would like to figure out how long I can indeed record stuff. I was looking into getting the 1GB version of this player.
Thanks

I think the question to ask is...

What format will the MIC. recording be in? if it's .wav, then 1GB may not last 2.5hrs. (at least I am not clear..looking at the spec.).

so if you record at 128 (high quality) kbps it should be PLENTY. 2.5 hours would take up about 175 mb of storage (a little over a mb/minute).
