Audio problem since I tried speakers: can't hear voices

by altar111 / May 6, 2010 6:39 PM PDT

Setup: Asus P4P800/XP SP3
I usually use a USB headset, and since I tried to plug in some speakers (unsuccessfully because I must have gotten the pluging wrong when I reassembled this computer) I can't hear voices anymore, they're like whispers, or alien speach, and the volume was lower win one earphone. After 3 days of going crazy, I began uninstalling all the video players I could except VLC, which made things better since the volume became the same again in both earphones, but it was still impossible to hear the voices. With the Media Player Classic Home Cinema, I found out that by resetting channel 2 from "front right" to "front left" together with channel 1, the sound was back to normal. But I still can't use any other player, listen to video/audio online, or use Skype.
Does anyone have any idea what pluging in these speakers has done so that I can revert it?
