Audio popping noise from LN37A550

Dec 20, 2008 8:59AM PST

Hi,
I've recently been hearing a pretty loud popping sound coming from my LN37A550 TV. The problem seems to have started when I switched from using coax input from my old set top box to a new set top box with HDMI input (details below). I've haven't noticed any pattern to the popping noise, but in the past few days I hear it probably 6-10 times a night (say over a two hour period or so). The TV is new and I've owned it for about 2 weeks now.

Cable Company: Time Warner
New Set Top Box: Scientific Atlantic Explorer 4250HDC
Firmware: version 1006.1

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Reset...

rhughes,

If you press the menu button on the remote for about 10 seconds, you should get a reset screen appear. Click yes, and that sound should go away.

Keep me posted.

HDTech-

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried the reset trick but holding down the menu button didn't prompt me to reset. I held the menu button for about 30 seconds but no option to reset appeared. Any other options?

rhughes76,

I'm terribly sorry, I meant to type "Exit" button. Hold that guy down, and see if that doesn't work a little better. Wink

HDTech:

Tried the EXIT button reset but I still have intermittent audio popping sound. I haven't heard the popping sound when I use my DVD player. I'm starting to think that the popping sound is created by the cable set top box. Should I request a replacement set top box? Or is there something else I can try?

Could be...

rhughes76,

It could be the connection to the cable box or the television assuming you're hooked up via HDMI. For some reason, I've seen it reported here that swtiching to Component Cables is a fix, but if you're using HDMI, switch the ports on the back of the television and see if it continues.

If it is the cable box, try asking them if there's a reset or upgrade available for the box that they can send over the co-ax, or ask if there's an audio adjust menu that you might explore with them on the phone.

Keep me posted.
