Question

audio not working and Video slow with windows 10

I am using Windows 10

Version 1909 (OS BUILD 18.363. 720



My audio has stopped working with my laptop speakers and my headphone when using a jack plug but it works when using my Bluetooth headphones. This happens whether I am on the internet or listening to something on my Laptop.

I have looked in the Device Manager and there is no problem showing up. I have tried to update the drives but it says that I have got the latest one on there





Also



When I try to watch a video (Laptop or Internet) it is taking about 30 seconds for the video to start playing, it happens every time and the problem started the same time as the Audio problem.



Hope you can help me please as I am not very clever with computers

Windows own driver update button is unreliable. My advice is to only use it as a last resort.

Drivers are to fetched then installed from your maker's site for your model.

The video issue could be machine related such as a slow HDD or for the Internet many report big slowdowns.

For a look under the hood, let's see a few reports.
1. Speccy. Read how at https://www.piriform.com/docs/speccy/using-speccy/publishing-a-speccy-profile-to-the-web
2. Userbenchmark.com Similar steps as Speccy. Share the links to the reports in a new reply.

1. S.M.A.R.T not supported is noted in the Speccy report.
Userbenchmark does tell us something is going on with the HDD but I can't see if the HDD is in trouble due to missing data.
Look to see if SMART is disabled in the BIOS (remember folk I can't find docs on all PCs so you have to look for me. If it's off, turn it on to make a new report and share it here.

2. Current Uptime: 80,468 sec (0 d, 22 h, 21 m, 08 s)
Reboot before any more testing.

3. Bluestacks. Remove for now. Why?

5. Also, since this is a speed issue, go with Windows Defender for a bit.

-> This does look like our old foe known as The Slow HDD. But data isn't there to completely nail it.

HOWEVER the MQ04ABF100 is a rather AWFUL 5400 RPM drive that is only used for cost sensitive models. No one I know would buy one.
ALSO a recent HP owner was rather miffed over their Core i7 16GB HP laptop that was taking a long time to boot and do anything. A quick look found a rather nice laptop but a poor choice on the HDD (another 5400 RPM door stop.) We changed it to SSD and the result was a pleasant to use laptop.

Yes, Upgrade to an SSD

As mentioned by others more expert than I, you should definitely upgrade that Toshiba hard drive by replacing it with an SSD. Reliability is the key here. Pay a few extra dollars and choose a Crucial MX500, or a WD 3D Blue, or Samsung 860 EVO. All SSDs are lightning fast compared to your existing hard drive, so don't worry about which one is fastest.

I second R. Proffitt's suggestion. Go to your laptop maker's website. Click on Support. Type in your model number or, better still, the laptop's serial number (Service Tag number if it's a Dell). Then choose Downloads / Drivers and Software. Download the newest drivers for everything. After downloading, you can install the drivers one at a time by double-clicking on them. They will replace whatever drivers Windows installed. This will likely result in everything working again. Good luck.
I've had to do this once already (for the wi-fi drivers) on my two year-old Windows 10 laptop, and for audio drivers on my older Windows 8.1 laptop which was updated to Windows 10.

R. Proffitt, Sorry but not got a clue where S.M.A.R.T is or how to turn it on.
I did what gaucherre said. I went to the HP site and downloaded all of the drives and all is working now

I want to write that if you feel the need for a new laptop, what you have will feel like a new laptop if you swap the HDD for the SSD models.
