Audio 'lip sync' issue with BD-4600

Jun 16, 2009 11:57PM PDT

HI all

I need help, i recently got a Samsung bd4600 blu-ray player, looks great. However when playing disks there is a lip sync lag, the audio comes after the mouth moves. It is more noticable with some filsm, Black hawk down being one of them.

I am connected to a Samsung LE40656 LCD TV via HDMI, the picture is fantastic just the sounds is behind, grrr. I have messed about with the settings on the player but wondering if it could be a TV issue ? there are lots of moces, game, film etc, would that make a difference ? I think it is 100mhz, is that a factor.

Please help me, i love the look of this player but very furstrating watching films now.

Thanks in hope

matt

Can we have a 'useful' update please.
Jul 22, 2009 8:06PM PDT

I've just exchanged my BD-4600 for a new one - no luck, still the same lip sync issue. Setting the 'PCM down sampling' in Setup -> Audio to off, seems to shorten the audio delay a little but it remains out of sync.

To me this does look like a design fault. If indeed it is then Samsung should confirm that either they are going to fix it, preferably through a firmware update (even if an ETA can't yet be given) or recall the product. Until now, you've only mentioned you are 'researching' and 'addressing' it, which is vague.

I really don't want to have to change it for some ghastly squared box to then find out the issue has been resolved. So be clear on whether or not a fix is on the horizon.

Consumer action.
Jul 23, 2009 7:58AM PDT

I suggest we co-ordinate a response to a consumer group. I live in the UK and "Watchdog" http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/ are excellent at dealing with these issues. The Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/consumer-affairs also have a good reputation.

We can't blame the tech guy on here, he seems to be trying his best but for Samsung to ignore this issue for so long is shocking. They all need to be recalled and replaced. These units are

Fellas,

We are aware of the issue and we are addressing it. I don't have an ETA.

We are already acting on it, but since I don't have any timeline to offer, I can certainly understand the frustration.

As soon as I hear something, I'll post it.

I sent my 3600 to Samsung
Jul 25, 2009 9:48AM PDT

I sent my 3600 to Samsung to fix the audio. Tech support said they knew of the problem and to ship it over. I got it back in about 5 days (in a Samsung lcd monitor box, so i no longer have the original box in case i need to return, but that is a seperate issue). So far I watched one movie on it and the audio SEEMED to be fine... now at first I thought it was off, but then I think I was just looking too hard. Either way it was better.

So then halfway through the movie it froze up, and I turned off and on and it still froze up. I put the disc in the ps3 and forwarded to the correct scene and it started right up no problem... the Samsung seemed maybe too warm like it overheated and then froze.

I'm going to try a second blu ray this weekend, I'll keep you posted.

Same problem with LG BD390
Jul 28, 2009 11:47AM PDT

I had an LG BD390 that had lip sync problems. LG wouldn't even acknowledge the issue, so I returned it for a Samsung 1590, which is giving me the same problem.

I have searched high and low for a solution, and the only one I have consistently found is "buy a Sony instead".

Unless Samsung fixes this problem soon, and I mean SOON (as in, within the next WEEK)my 1590 is going back to the store as well, and I'm opting for a Sony. It doesn't stream Netflix, which is basically the one feature that led me to buy the LG and Samsung, but at this point, I just want to be able to watch a ******** Blu Ray.

I've had enough of this.

BD-P3600 works after fix
Jul 28, 2009 11:56AM PDT

Just to give an update, I watched Valkyrie the other night and the audio was fine and it did not freeze at all. So I believe I can safely say that if you call Samsung and send it to a service center they will fix the lip sync issue.

Now im trying to tackle why my pc streaming is slow and choppy...

Lip Syncing
Aug 13, 2009 10:45PM PDT

Well first post, I've joined the forum in the hope that I get some insight into the 4600 lip sync issues.

I have an LE40A656 TV and a Samsung HT220Z home cinema system (at least I think it's that one).

My wife bought me the beautiful BD-4600 Clue Ray player on Monday for my birthday but have read in trepedation about the lip syncing issues. Sure enough have now tried it with composite, HDMI and HDMI with Optical out into the surround sound - all three have bad lip sync.

Contacted Samsung support on Monday and they logged the call before I had even tested to see if the fault was there. On tuesday I reported that the fault had occured and they would then escelate. Chased on Thursday to be informed that a firmwware update had been sent in the post. Sure enough the post contaied three pieces of paper telling me how to install the update. I applied 1.02 which I had already loaded from the net and the problem seems to have eased but not gone away.

Rang Samsung again today who told me there is a later patch (with a June date) but it is not available on the support site yet. They will send this out (hopefully a CD rather than just instructions) and I will try this when I get it.

I really hope this works as it is a lovely machine - picture is superb, although I have to say the upscaled DVD on the HT220 would be hard to beat (but at least I don't need to replace back catalogues as both are a joy to watch)

Gave up
Sep 6, 2009 11:01PM PDT

Well, one more upgrade, one week in a service centre in Birmingham and the official line is they know there's a fault and there's no release for the upgrade.

Took it back to John Lewis on Saturday and swapped it for a PS3 - works beautifully (although not as nice looking as the BDP-4600). No lipsyncing issues.

Thanks Samsung - a product released that does not work!

No action from Samsung
Sep 25, 2009 10:06PM PDT

Since there has not been any update from Samsung on the design fault with the BD4600 that causes severe lip-sync problems, I assume that they have no intention of fixing this product ?

Any update??
Oct 19, 2009 11:22PM PDT

Same here, I want a wall mounted blu-ray machine (why is the industry taking so long to catch on with these products, all new TV's are flat to the wall why are the players still not???)

Anyhoo, I would like this machine but I'm waiting for the issue to be resolved.

Any updates on the new firmware or hardware solutions alternates would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Wall mounting
Oct 20, 2009 8:58PM PDT

Hi Jagosamsung,
Thanks for your response.
I've heard about the different coloured lines on these models before but thought it was something to do with where they were purchased, i.e. blue was EU and red was UK. No definite fact there just a rumour.

SAMSUNG TECH - any chance you could update us on the issue as I have money burning a hole in my pocket!!

Cheers,
Glen

P.S. My point about wall mounting is that this is the only blu-ray player that IS designed to be wall mounted, why are other manufacturers NOT catching on to this idea??

Yes it is a stunning design and yes it has a very good picture. The problem comes when you try to play a 'normal' (i.e. not blu-ray) DVD on it and then you will see that the audio sound track and the video picture are not in sync. We tried to play a non blu-ray version of Mama-Mia on it and the delay between the audio and video was about 0.5 seconds, thereby making it un-watchable ! Other than that basic design flaw, it is a great player !?!

Lipsync
Oct 21, 2009 3:44AM PDT

Hi Andy,

Which 'version' of this player do you have, how long have you had it and where did you buy it from?

I'm trying to work out if there is any difference between the blue and red striped models or if it's a region thing.

I once owned a Denon DVD player which was great until it was made multi region then it went to sh$t!

Cheers for the updates and info.

Any one else still ahving this issue??

Still got issues
Oct 21, 2009 3:53AM PDT

I've had this player for a couple of months now and had a lip sync issue with it from day one. I don't have the receipt for it anymore otherwise I'd take it back and get a player that actually worked. Lip sync issue is with both DVD's and BluRay. Being that this is it's primary function I'd say the player aint that great! Don't get this player unless they've fixed the issue with the firmware and if they have fixed the issue can someone from Samsung post and let us all know before I sling mine out the window? Thanks.

Lipsync
Oct 21, 2009 10:20PM PDT

Jago.....
The reason for my original post in this thread is to ask if the problem (i.e. the whole of the previous 5 pages) is still evident.

There are lipsync issues with this machine which Samsung have previously acknowledged but as yet not fixed.

All others......
Could you post what colour trim you have on your machine, where you purchased it from and if you have the problem with lipsync or not.

Maybe we could build a stronger case with this information,
thanks in advance for your help.

iain_a101,

Sorry, I didn't see your post until after I responded to the other poster.

If you're still experiencing this issue, call 800-SAMSUNG and see if they'll repair it for you. If not, get a transaction number and post it here. I'll see if I can assist.

Lip Sync - Audio Delay
Oct 17, 2010 7:55PM PDT

I purchased the Samsung HT-C6500 Sept 20th, 2010 at Best Buy. It's connected to a projector by RGB cable and throwing about 8 feet. The lipsync/audio delay is an issue with all discs and netflix on demand. Changing the settings did nothing. Updating firmware did nothing. Samsung support could not resolve the issue either. For almost $600, this is ridiculous. I'm returning the product this week for a full refund. Probably will go with another brand. Oh well. I tried. They failed. Movin' on.
