Audio 'lip sync' issue with BD-4600

Jun 16, 2009 11:57PM PDT

HI all

I need help, i recently got a Samsung bd4600 blu-ray player, looks great. However when playing disks there is a lip sync lag, the audio comes after the mouth moves. It is more noticable with some filsm, Black hawk down being one of them.

I am connected to a Samsung LE40656 LCD TV via HDMI, the picture is fantastic just the sounds is behind, grrr. I have messed about with the settings on the player but wondering if it could be a TV issue ? there are lots of moces, game, film etc, would that make a difference ? I think it is 100mhz, is that a factor.

Please help me, i love the look of this player but very furstrating watching films now.

Thanks in hope

matt

lip sync problem bd-p3600
Jul 2, 2009 11:38AM PDT

I gave up! Exchanged the set for the panasonic bd60. Pity.
I tried updating the firmware from 1.00 to 1.02 (Asia/Singapore). Improved slightly but still noticeable. But it locked dvd playback to region 3 only.

Your Panasonic
Jul 2, 2009 4:57PM PDT

hi Chrishc

Did your Panasonic work ok ? was there any lip sync probs with it ? I have sent mine back and awaiting the refund from Amazon. I am reluctant to buy Samsung again so not sure which model to get, I amy go for a Sony model or Panasonic.

It is a real shame that Samsung could not get this fixed, i really loved the design and i looked so stylish with my matching samsung TV.

Ah well

No luck Matt!
I loved the pic from the Samsung. But it still had the lipsync problem after software 1.02 update. Have returned it and got the Panasonic bd60, which is pretty good!

2 updates
Jul 2, 2009 4:39AM PDT

djbasher,

If you're asking about the US Service Site, it's because there are two options to update the player. One is for making a USB thumbdrive, the other is for burning the update program onto a CD.

I'm also dealing with the lipsync issue on a 3600 and it's super annoying. I doubt I'll keep my player another week before I return.

I'm curious, what TVs are others using? Initially I paired this player up with a Samsung LCD and didn't notice an issue, but now that I've switched to a Pioneer--voila. Problems.

BD-P4600 LIP SYNC
Jul 7, 2009 5:56PM PDT

I'm using a Samsung Series 5 LCD (which I've also updated with the latest firmware). I've also bought a new HDMI cable and still no difference. You wouldn't think this would be such a mind-minder for a company like Samsung, would you??

Samsung
Jul 7, 2009 6:01PM PDT

i had my bd4600 connected to a Samsung series 6 LCD TV, tried everything i could to make it work, sadly no joy.

I have now sent my 4600 back and am awaiting a refund from Amazon, should be in here soon, i will go out and purchase a different make and let people on here know how it compares.

Shame really but not sure Samsung will get this sorted anytime soon, 10 out of 10 for design, 0 out of 10 for actually working.

so are u still sorting the BD-P4600 issue or is that firmware update that didn't work the best u can do ????
reassure me your doing something please.

Have you made no progress at all, or just ignoring us ??

Why are you still "researching this issue and bringing it to the attention of the appropriate departments". This was the resonse you gave on 20 June !! I'd suggest that if your test scripts are up to scratch then you would immediately see this problem in your product test area, and your product hardware & software guys should easily be able to identify the problem and an appropriate solution. Since you are still researching, it suggests that (a) The issue hasn't yet been raised with the appropriate departments, (b)Samsung haven't bothered to retest this product and are ignoring their customers, (b) the test scripts don't work (perhaps this is why the product was released with an inherent design fault), or (d) your technical people can't fix it and you are just fobbing everyone off !!!! Not what we expect from a (supposedly) keading consumer electronics company. I suggest we raise this problem with the 'Watchdog' program so that it might get a slot on national TV. Perhaps Samsung would then consider addressing this issue with a bit more urgency.

andyl457,

Well, I'm still researching it because people are still having issues. We released a firmware we thought addresses the issue, and it appears that this doesn't fix the issue. So we're still researching it.

Posting progress updates is at my discretion. I can't exactly drop internal procedures on a web forum, so I offer what I can when I'm comfortable doing so.

If "taking action" is where this thread is going, I may to have to step out altogether.

Samsung_HD_Tech: are there any known "fixes"?
Jul 13, 2009 6:26AM PDT

Just got this Blu-Ray player and tried watching a blu-ray last night and experienced the problem.

I stumbled across this thread and noticed there is some pretty up to date responses.

I'm curious to know if any of these work arounds (changing audio settings, firmware updates) etc have made a difference for anyone?

What are your recommendations to try to make this sync properly?

no
Jul 13, 2009 6:31AM PDT

no they have not shamsung need to fix it

return it !
Jul 13, 2009 7:24AM PDT

The best hing you can do is to return it to the retailer and explain there is a design fault that shamsung are unable to fix, then swap it for a sony or a panasonic !!

Samsung lip sync
Jul 13, 2009 5:53PM PDT

I have now returned my unit to the retailer and I'm awaiting a refund. My money will then go to either Sony or Panasonic, not Samsung. If Samsung had bothered to get this problem sorted then I would have been happy to await a firmware upgrade, but since they've had weeks now, and failed to address the issue all I can do is give my business to someone else. After this experience, I can't think of one reason to purchase Samsung in the future.

mastertbomb,

Changing the audio settings or enabling a digital delay in the receiver (if applicable) is one way. I'm not sure exactly what's causing the issue, but we are addressing it.

If it's not a solution for you, do what makes you happiest. This isn't happening with all units, but it is an issue with some, and if it is with you, do what's best for you.

UN55B6000 LED and BD-P1600

Wow I am confused ... I have the Lip Sync issues also. Using HMDI cables only from the P1600 and the Comcast HD box... some show are fine others are out of sync. (live TV ok any on demand or Netflix could be out of sync but then again it may not...) have not used a BR disk yet... Its making us crazy and after investing all this money and installation we are thinking of returning it all to the store... I want to try the "adjustments" but need you to explain to me in lay terms what to do?.. please help.

Jul 20, 2009 4:54AM PDT

Hi HDTech,

I toggled the audio settings but I'm still experiencing sound delays and I don't know if there's much else I can do to try and fix this.

If you are addressing this, have you come up with any other fixes?

Thanks

Sony works perfectly
Jul 14, 2009 1:17AM PDT

Just got my new Sony bds350, plugged it up and it works perfectly, clear picture with NO LIP SYNC ISSUE at all,

So my advice to any of you who have not done so by now, RETURN IT and get a different make

You loose on the great Samsung design but IT WORKS, and you can play films perfectly.

Good luck all

Dodgy syncing
Jul 22, 2009 8:00PM PDT

My feeling on the issue is that there is an issue with the syncing logic, either the code has a bug in it, the hardware timers have a bug in them or the actual hardware that does the processing Sad

Is there a way to see the bitrate of the video/audio data? Since I wonder if it happens at points where there is a lot more stuff to pull/decode?
