Audio 'lip sync' issue with BD-4600

Jun 16, 2009 11:57PM PDT

HI all

I need help, i recently got a Samsung bd4600 blu-ray player, looks great. However when playing disks there is a lip sync lag, the audio comes after the mouth moves. It is more noticable with some filsm, Black hawk down being one of them.

I am connected to a Samsung LE40656 LCD TV via HDMI, the picture is fantastic just the sounds is behind, grrr. I have messed about with the settings on the player but wondering if it could be a TV issue ? there are lots of moces, game, film etc, would that make a difference ? I think it is 100mhz, is that a factor.

Please help me, i love the look of this player but very furstrating watching films now.

Thanks in hope

matt

Audio 'lip sync' issue with BD-4600

mattyjoyce,

I will look into this issue; I've seen a few complaints on this so far, and for the time being, I don't have a fix unfortunately. I'll see what I can find.

Experiment
Jun 17, 2009 6:39PM PDT

Hi there,

As an experiment can you hook up the 2 phono connectors from the player to the TV and use that as sound? (probably have to watch the picture in yucky S-Video though).

If there is still a sync issue must be the player. If no sync issue then either the TV is not matching the sync correctly or the player is sending the data out of sync on the HDMI.

Like HDTech said, its an open issue currently been investigated (we hope Happy

Thanks

firmware update
Jun 18, 2009 7:11PM PDT

I will try a few more things at the weekend, see if i can sort it out.

There is a firmware update for my TV, is it worth installing it, i dont want to update it and it makes things worse.

I dont think it is the player itself (e.g it is broken), my brother has the same one and the same TV (although 46") and it does it on his too. So it must eiher the model of the player does not like my TV, although both being Samsung and both fairly new surely that is not the case.

I will report back my findings after the weekend.

Also seeing lip sync problem when playing regular DVDs
Jun 20, 2009 7:30PM PDT

I recently purchased a Samsung LE32B551 wide-screen TV and yesterday purchased a Samsung BD4600 blu-ray player which I understtod has DVD upscaling. Connected TV and player using hi-quality (and expensive) HDMI cable. Picture and sound are great when wathing a blu-ray disc but when we try to play a regular DVD we see this lip-sync problem which makes it un-watchable. It is worse on some DVDs. I'm planning on returning the player to the retailer. What is the issue and when is the estimated fix date?

a few extra things tried - and failed
Jun 22, 2009 5:11PM PDT

I tested it again using various settings, including setting the player to 4.3, still no joy.

I tried it on my old 1080i Toshiba lcd TV and you could hardly notice it.

Therefore is it something to do with the progressive scan ?

Samsung Tech guys - can you keep us informed of progress to get this sorted, i am reluctant to send it back or sell it on as i really love what samsung have done with the design, but obviously if its not working right then i will have to switch to another make.

mattyjoyce,

I'm addressing it with the powers that be. I don't have a timeframe for a fix, but I am actively bringing attention to this issue.

Is Samsung able to provide any kind of indicative timescale for a fix?
I like the design of this player, and will keep it if the fix will be released in the next couple of weeks but I will want to return it if the fix is going to be months away. Please advise.

andyl457,

I make it somewhat of a policy to not promise anything I can't personally deliver. I can't deliver firmware. Sometimes I get advance notice, but sometimes I don't. I've escalated the issue, but I don't have a date.

So with that said, do what makes you happiest.

Thank you, Samsung, for your completely unhelpful response. I, like some of your other customers, are completely frustrated by your total lack of ability to quickly provide a fix date for this serious design fault with one of your products. I have now returned the unit to the retailer and have bought a Sony instead, which I'm happy to say plays DVDs and Blu-Ray discks without even a hint of any lip-sync problem. Please go read a few books on customer service !!!!

lip sync issue
Jun 20, 2009 11:00PM PDT

I was able to get rid of this problem in my BD-P3600 by turning OFF 24p mode. After that there was still some sync issues but when I change screen format from 16:9 to 4:3 in BD-P3600 options it was all gone! Hopefully this helps to get rid of this problem.

Lip sync problem with BD-P4600
Jun 22, 2009 12:38AM PDT

I agree that we need a proper fix for this problem rather than some ad-hoc workaround that fixes some of the issue some of the time. I have aready spoken to the head office of the retailer where I purchased mine BD-P4600 and suggested they remove stock from the shelves in all their stores in order to prevent others from being sold this product until the design flaw is fixed.

SAMSUNG BD-P4600 LIP SYNC PROBLEMS
Jun 25, 2009 10:28PM PDT

I'd just like to add my voice to those previous. I've had my unit since May, and the problem has always been there. Hopefully someone from Samsung will realise the need for a fix to be found urgently, or else there isn't much point having it.

I've just had the most useless reply from Samsung, which was simply why not try another cable!! From my fault report they are either not taking this seriously or aren't bothering to deal with it.

The firmware updates have been posted on the support side of www.samsung.com

Have you tried installing them? One user reports success, and I'd be interested in hearing if this helps your issues too.

Jun 29, 2009 2:37AM PDT

Hi

I installed it no probs using the instructions on the webiste. I tried it with Shawshank redemption and there is still a lip sync problme. I will try it with another film later but sadly from what i can tell there is no difference.

Can you advise me on the next course of action, i purchased from Amazon and not sure they will take it back as its a month or so old, however i will check.

thanks

matt

ps i am in the UK if that makes any difference.

Returning
Jun 29, 2009 6:42PM PDT

Well i played about a bit more and no joy so boxed it up and returning it to Amazon. the lady on the phone was very good and understood. I will buy a Sony or something from a shop.

Real shame as Samsung got the styling right but not much use if you cant watch it, ah well.

Jun 30, 2009 6:53AM PDT

One is for a USB stick, the other is for a CD. You choose which one you want dependent on the media you use to upgrade the firmware.

As I said, I updated and it didn't help with the lip sync issue.
