Output?
Dec 7, 2008 9:39AM PST

jay spencer98,

Why not try hooking up your PS3 and cable box to your television, and then run the optical cable to your Onkyo? The surround sound (if you have it) will be supported by the optical out on the Samsung television (latest models, you didn't specify) and your picture will go directly to the television with the audio.

Keep me posted.

I am sorry my tv is only a month old. I can do it that way but i want to know if it sounds like a tv or receiver issue to get warranty work done while i can. If i can run all my video and audio to my receiver and just run one cable to my tv that is what I want to do.

Diagnostic...

jay,

I'm not sure what it sounds like. The possibility of it being the television is just as valid as anything else.

However, the output for each seperate connection on the receiver is something I can't diagnose - I'm just not familiar with the different receivers, modes, processing, and output settings for the 300 or so different receivers and submodels. I'm good... but I'm not THAT good. Grin

What I *am* familiar with is the television settings. If your peripherals go into the television, and the sound doesn't work, I can be a step closer to diagnosing it. If it does work, then you have a solution. (and in my opinion, an ideal one)

Audio transferred via HDMI to the television can be sent different ways; however, it will be transfered to 2.0 audio for the television speakers. The optical out provides the solution to stream it from Source>HDMI>Television>Optical>Receiver, and this would give me an ability to determine if it's the television.

It could be as simple as a setting on the receiver to fix your current configuration, but again, I'd have no idea how to walk you through that.

Any Onkyo experts in the forum care to jump in?
