audio in msn messenger conferencing or lack of it

Mar 11, 2005 9:22AM PST

I am having problems with receiving audio from my contacts. they can see and hear me fine but i can only see them. All my settings and devices are working. When i tried to test sound hardware it couldn't complete. I got the error 0x80150175 and the message that windows could not execute DPVSetup.exe and to use add/remove to install. I went to microsoft who are aware of the error, followed their advice but it did't work. I use XP,Toshiba satelite m30-107 note book and a logitech Quickcam Pro. there is no problem with my contacts setups as they can all comunicate with each other no probs.I'd be grateful for some advice thanks

audio in msn messenger conferencing or lack of it

Similar problems....I was told it could be a problem with the firewall you are using...it is blocking audio. This seems to be a very common problem, and is receiving too little attention by the software makers....why? I don't know. I would like other users to add comments here. What is your operating system and are you using an additional firewall?

audio and messenger
Apr 4, 2005 11:24AM PDT

Thanks for the reply. I am still having the problem. Msn messenger never did reply. I am using Windows XP home edition and a Mcafee firewall. I am awating a reply from Mcafee. However at the moment if i want an audio conversation I now use Skype but still use msn messenger for video when needed until i find the solution. Apparently the audio in Skype is far superior than msn. Not an ideal solution i know but there you go. Keep me posted if you find the answer.

I was having the same problem and solved it by diconnecting my Linksys wireless router that connected my daughters machine.
It seemed that MSN Messeger 6.2 does not like running through the router.
It is some while since I did this and I have since loaded 6.2.0205 and have not tried reconnecting the router.
You should be using at least version 06.02 and preferably 6.2.0205. I had trouble talking to relatives in the UK until they upgraded to 6.2

Still no sound

Thank you Dave for replying. Unfortunately I am not using a wireless router to cause this problem. All of my contacts and I are using the beta version of messenger. I know the answer's out there!

Same problem with Audio on MSM - McAfee Antivirus 9
May 3, 2005 2:28AM PDT

A couple of weeks ago I was going to renew my license for McAfee ViruScan 7 but I was "recommended" (=forced) by McAfee to upgrade to version 9. Since then, I'm having a serious problem with audio when I'm using MSM and running McAfee ViruScan 9 at the same time.
My contacts can hear me clearly but the audio in my computer is so chopped that's impossible to talk.
I was using XP home edition, the firewall from XP and McAfee ViruScan 9. When I uninstalled McAfee AV9 the problem disappeared. I've contacted McAfee but I haven't got a satisfactory answer to the problem yet. Actually, this was more like a waste of time. I give up and directly ask for a refund of VS9. Now I'm trying another antivirus (F-prot) and so far the problem never come up. When I've restored the system to a previous date (before the upgrading) the problem was gone too. I was clear that the problem was created by McAfee VS9. I was using McAfee VS7 for almost 3 years without any problems. I'm very disappointing with McAfee. They should be solving this, doing more testing before releasing a new product instead to leave the users to solve it... anyway...
