This is probably impossible to do, and I am not knowledgeable in such matters, but, is there any way that I can alter the TV broadcast audio of sporting events in a manner that will eliminate the broadcast commentators' voices while retaining the event and fan sounds? I'll pay good American or any other kind of money to be relieved of the noise these people make.

No offense intended. I just don't want to listen to commentary that does not directly support the action as it unfolds. Every sporting event is a drama unto itself and should not be violated with vicarious discussions, such as a grandmother's miraculous cure from heroin addiction, or a tutorial on how and why an athlete should or shouldn't have done something. By the time the commentator is finished, a round or two in the Friday Night Fights could have passed. I can get that kind of critique in a neighborhood bar and on the same level of know it all scolding. It's like talking in a theatre. You shouldn't do anything that neglects and obscures the unfolding action. It is disrespectful to the sport, the athletes and the fans. If everybody was like Vince Scully or the late, great Chick Hearn, I wouldn't be on this fool's errand.

In a sports like baseball, golf, and fishing, we are going to have lots of dead air space. How about demand the owners to hire better commentary personnel instead.

Dead air is an excuse, a scapegoat for sagging ratings.

Golf has, thank goodness, an established tradition of quiet commentary and respect for the game as it is played. I don't include golf as an endangered species. I have not watched many fishing competitions and cannot comment on them. Baseball, boxing, football, tennis et al, are in trouble. Yes, we need better commentators, but I believe the reason there are problems is that the broadcasters, themselves, are encouraging the gratuitous filling of dead air. I wonder if they teach all these ex jocks broadcasting techniques that include finishing whatever they're saying no matter what has just happened in front of them, including, knockouts, home runs and spectacular plays. The very idea that dead air in sports watching is a no-no, insults the intelligence of sports fans. They tune in to watch. They do not tune in to be distracted, and forced to mute the sound or change the channel. That's real dead air. Nobody buys a car if they've tuned out. But, I'm not trying to reform the industry. I just want to watch the events unburdened. Will getting a theatre sound system be of any use?
