Audio from Laptop Trough Tv Only Works Once

May 29, 2015 10:10PM PDT

Hello, so this is my amazing problem, so I figure it out how to make the sound come out of my TV, now is working fine but when I turn off the source of audio or video from my computer, ex: a video, I try to use again and the sound only comes trough the speakers on my laptop. And I cant' make it go back to the TV. I have the right drivers installed for it to work, I have Amd Audio Output set to default on the playback devices. The only thing to make the audio working again is if I restart my computer and always have a sound on so it doesn't turn off until the next restart. I have a toshiba satellite l505-13e with the amd radeon hd 4650 on a windows 8.1
Thank you.

The clue could be your comment on drivers.

Out of the box this laptop should be capable. Using the driver update button tends to break drivers. Odd but true.

Go back to stock everything.

Stock driver
May 30, 2015 1:13AM PDT

I used a legacy driver for windows 8.1 because the stock one doesn't give the correct resolution, but I installed manually the HDMI Audio Driver and does the same problem. I don't know why it is switching the devices when there is no sound playing...

Then you may be short of luck.

Makers rarely supply/support more than one driver. You changed from the stock driver so you are out on your own. Here I can't guess why you changed. NO AUDIO DRIVER is required per se since it's all digital. I've setup PCs with no audio cards and get sound over HDMI. Maybe in this case the audio chip/card needs to be disabled to force it over HDMI.

Now works

Thanks for the tip, I installed a wrong version of my video drivers and it changed my audio drivers too. Now I uninstalled everything returning to stock and the audio works fine. Solved!

Thanks for the update. Word Of Warning.

Those "driver update" buttons and apps? DO NOT USE THOSE. Quite the source of work for my friends in tech support out there.
