audio file conversion

I made a .aif file with GarageBand but was wondering if anyone knows how to convert it to .mp3 or another more accesible and compressed file type.

Thanks.

In Garage Band. Export to iTunes. This puts a copy of your music into iTunes in the AIFF format.
iTunes will automatically open. If it doesn't, open it. Go to preferences. Choose Importing. Set the selection to MP3 and choose your sample rate.
Close preferences. Select your track in the Library. (Highlight it) Go to the Advanced menu. Choose convert selection to MP3.
Boom, You're done
