- There's a standard for video DVD's (like the normal retail DVD's).
- There's a standard for audio CD's (like the normal retail CD's).
- There's a standard for data CD's, which means that every PC and Mac will be seeing the folders and files. But, of course, that doesn't necessarily mean they will be able to do something useful with that files.
- There's even a standard for data DVD's. That's the same as for CD's. Means that if you burn a data DVD on one PC, you'll be able to read the data on another PC. Great medium for backup and transfer of large files.
- But there's no standard for an audio DVD.
- And there's no law that dictates that any DVD-player (or CD-player for that matter) should be able to play mp3's or ogg's or wma's or DRM'd music from the Apple iPod store or amazon.com.
So begin with reading the user manual of your DVD-player to see what it can do (and what it can't do). Then you might be able to make something that works somewhat (or even more than that).
