XP can require a very specific install sequence of drivers. Look at this example.

It's not your exact model, but it happens a lot! This is why it's better to use restore media.

I have an older HP Pavilion 743g desktop. After doing a clean Windows XP install, I have no audio drivers and update attempts are unsuccessful. I am getting messages stating my Realtek AC'97 Audio is not Windows Logo tested & my computer shuts down and restarts. I tried getting updates from HP and Intel, both with the same results. Different methods have resulted in messages stating my Multimedia Audio controller is unknown and I should contact the manufacturer. My audio worked fine prior to the fresh XP installation. Can anyone help with the "audio driver" installation?
