Virtualdub was able to strip out the audio strip so I could attempt audio restoration with what ever audio tools you could find. Look at Audicity, Goldwave and others (see google). After the work you could then rejoin the audio with the video in Virtualdub.
Sorry but this is not a tutorial but to share that you have some of the right tools to attempt this.

I have a question about editing some audio of an AVI I recorded on my camera at a rock concert. The music was so loud and bass-y that the voice got drowned out. Is there a way to correct this using VirtualDub (any other recommendations would be helpful)- any advice on how to do this would be appreciated - I'm a bit confused. Thanks!
