Attention Yahoo E-mail/groups Users!

Mar 8, 2004 1:25AM PST

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going. Take a look at their updated privacy statement: http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/pixels/details.html
About half-way down the page, in the section "Outside the Yahoo! Network", you'll see a little "click here" link that will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping. Once you have clicked that link, you are opted out. Notice the "Success" message the top the next page. Be careful because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will undo the opt-out.
Feel free to forward this to other groups. Notice that you must do this from EACH COMPUTER that you wish this selection to apply to.

Thanks, Dave, a good Heads Up.

Although I'm not a Yahoo user, I wonder if Yahoo has advised their users of this, and in a way that caught their eye.

Grin I am somewhat surprised that you didn't find a way to tie this to the Patriot Act and the Administration.

I certainly haven't seen anything, and I'm a SBC/Yahoo DSL customer.

If you wanted to opt out they had a marketing page to go to I guess about a year ago. I went and checked and all of my settings had already been marked as no.
I just thought I had better look to see if any thing new had been done.

One of my e-mail addresses is through Yahoo! I have not seen this information before. The following was from the site you provided:

"Yahoo! collects information about your transactions with us and with some of our business partners, including information about your use of financial products and services that we offer.
Yahoo! automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, Yahoo! cookie information, and the page you request.
Yahoo! uses information for the following general purposes: to customize the advertising and content you see, fulfill your requests for products and services, improve our services, contact you, conduct research, and provide anonymous reporting for internal and external clients."

Thanks for the info Dave. I don't use Yahoo but my daughter has a Yahoo email account. I forwarded your message to her so she could opt out if desired.
