Attention: Temporarily disabling "This answers my question"

by Lee Koo (ADMIN) CNET staff/forum admin / July 17, 2015 3:11 PM PDT

Hi everyone,

We recently found a bug in our system with the "Question" post type--where the author of the question was unable to select the best answer submitted by other members. And because of this bug, we have temporarily disabled the option to select "This answers my question" (if you are the original author of the question.)

We are currently investigating the bug and once we have it fixed, we then enable this feature once again.

I apologize for the inconvenience and the confusion that this may have caused.

-Lee

did not know it was still around

Had not seen it in a while so I thought it was already gone when the forum was updated.

We carried this feature over...
by Lee Koo (ADMIN) CNET staff/forum admin / July 22, 2015 3:23 PM PDT

but unfortunately it was broken.

The reason you haven't seen it because it was broken all this time. Sad

you could leave it off permanently

for all I care. Often it is used before other and better answers are given and no way for the person to change it. It's more time sensitive than answer sensitive.

can change their "best answer" selection and undo their selection as well.

didn't know that

I do tend at times to pass by one that's already had "best answer" used, believing it indicates they felt the answer was sufficient. Later some of them come back and say they have the same problem and "best answer" didn't fix it. I like renegade's idea below.

not totally sure it was needed

a lot of times the best answer is the result of the previous replies. I think the "was this helpful" feature is all that is needed.

UPDATE: This has been fixed
by Lee Koo (ADMIN) CNET staff/forum admin / December 15, 2015 12:36 PM PST

Sorry It took a while for this fix to go out.

Now the authors of "Question" post type can choose any "Answer" submitted including their own answer to be the "Best answer" and it will change the Question to "Resolved question" state.

I apologize for the disruption and inconvenience that this may have caused.

Cheers!
-Lee
