Let's take a vote.
Oct 17, 2006 1:49AM PDT

I vote for TONI to represent the geriatric group.

NO forum changes unless it passes the OLD EYE BALL test.

Just a gripe.
What the heck is all this active-x stuff I'm being bombed with?

Scrolling ads?......non-sense stuff.

Lee, A Connection Nightmare
Oct 18, 2006 6:06AM PDT

I strongly suggest that you personally either have a temporary dial up connection installed or go to a friend's computer that only has dial up and try to get your site to load up in less than 3-1/2 minutes.

I suspect that not all members have cable/dsl/satellite modem service available to them either because of regional issues or financial ones, and I tried my old dial up as a test.

In order to get to the threads to post or read anything, I first had to wait for well over a minute and a half to get them to show up because the ads and displays all around the threads began to load up first. In order to not wait the entire almost four minutes for the rest of the stuff to load, I had to use the STOP button in the IE toolbar once I saw the threads load up.

I have a 56K modem installed, but most times can't get connection of anything higher than 38.6 and usually lower than that which actually is pretty good for these antique mountain phone lines. Even if I could get closer to 50K, I really don't think it would make a whole lot of difference in the amount of time it takes for these pages to load....especially since once you click a post to read it, the page again goes through the whole process all over again. Having the pages be cached helps slightly, but if you want new content each time, as Moderators need, you have to set your options to view new content each click.

This is not a good thing, Lee....people will be turned off pretty quickly with the amount of time it takes to load a single page since the ads have priority in the loading sequence.

Toni H, don't feel bad

the forum loads slow even with DSL. It hesitates and even hangs with DSL.

Also did you see the image I made for you.

If NOT here it is for you.

It should help you with the forums.

I had another on that Glenda wanted me to post but I figured that it might not be suitable for the forums.

My whole opera window move 1" to the right. Its off center now. Be nice to get it back where it was. Slide bar on the right is gone too.

No problem here and 100% better than the old intensive orange color. Would not mind a little more blue in the text but am satisfied as is.

No problem with text size and I also wear bifocals. Grin

Forum name font size...

Forum name at top of the page is a little difficult to zero in on... maybe slightly larger font or adding something distinctive would help. Only a suggestion! Grin

Devil

So I will buck the trend and add my observation.

Firefox and CNET

Whenever a forum page loads in Firefox, it loads completely, (usually after some delay with ads, etc), then flashes and reloads instantly, as if Firefox is re-parsing all the code.

It's most off-putting.

It doesn't happen in IE as far as I can tell.

Ohh, and I agree with everyone who has taken a sudden dislike to the medium/light blue font. Darker please. And I'm only 55, not oldies like all these other users, Happy

Does it in Opera too, and while I'm still here..
Oct 17, 2006 3:27AM PDT

Why did the pages (Main Window) all move 1" to the right. Its like that with Opera, IE6, FF.1 but not when going off C/Net and only since the Fix...Real PITA this fix. Sad

If you mean...
Oct 17, 2006 3:56AM PDT

If you mean this indentation, marked in red, then it's temporary during the transition to a wider screen format. The forums themselves have not been updated yet to match the rest of the site, so they look like they're in an oversized frame, but it should be 'back to the new normal' soon.

It appears to have been a glitch with the universal login in the upper right-hand corner, which has now been fixed. However, you may need to log out and log back in for the change to take effect.
