I am trying to send a nutritional file fron the (USDA) United States Department of Ag. to a friend. First I sent it to myself to see if it would work. The mail with the attachment arrived OK, but OE would not let me open the attachment. It said,

"OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail."

I know this is a safe attachment. How can I work around this so it can be opened.

Thanks

Click on tools

click on options

click on security

put a dot on internet zones

uncheck the box Do not allow attachments.

It will not allow you to accept emails with attachments.

Send it again.

Hope this helps.

If you leave
Feb 26, 2006 3:02PM PST

If you leave the Do Not Download attachments unchecked, it will do no harm. Just remember not to open any emails from anyone that you don't know. Your virus protection should protect you from the viruses, if any, in an email.

If you do not have virus protection try AVG FREE or AVAST. These are great virus programs and they are FREE.

I would also click on view

click on layout

and uncheck the preview pane. If you happen to get an email with a virus in it, using the preview pane will automatically allow the virus to attack your computer.

And depending on what ISP you are using with Outlook Express, you might want to consider just downloading the headers instead of the full emails.

Hope this helps.

If you leave

Hi Rick.

I am using AVG for my anti virus. I also use ad-aware, spybot, & cwshredder.

Prevue payne is disabled, never use it.

ATT is my current ISP. Hopefully in a few days I will be using Comcast cable. (I am going to try the "self install" method, that should be fun for someone with my limited knowledge.)

Thanks for the help

After you install Comcast
Feb 27, 2006 12:44PM PST

After you install Comcast, you can set it up to use with Outlook Express or use MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD which I use. Your virus protection will protect you. One program that stops spyware from getting into your computer is SPYWARE BLASTER. You might want to look into this one.

After you do your self install, if you have any problems, just remember the forums are always here to help you.

Thanks again Rick, I will check your suggestions.

These forums are great for a "super senior" like me who is trying to learn this computer stuff in his "golden years". LOL
