Athlon XP 1700+ running stable at 110 degrees celsius?

A friend of mine has a PC with an Athlon running stable at 110

I vaguely remember some BIOS udpates corrected something like this, but you can check that issue.

a thermometer
and you have to check the CPU from the side
OR you can mount a small probe right next to the die under the HSF (a thermometer with a probe)

Radio Shack, under $20. Indoor/outdoor thermometer with a long wire [2 wire cable] with a sensor on the end for the remote [outside] temp..

Lets see now, 100deg celsius (212 deg F) is the boiling point of water so if you put you finger on the heat sink it would be very hot and you would get good burn! If you can put you finger on the heat sink and it feels warm but not hot and you don't get a burn your OK and can set the clock speed to normal. If have Athalon 2000xp and it does run warm around 40~45deg C.
The Radio shack item sound like a good idea. John
