AT&T VOIP calls breaking up

Feb 20, 2008 12:39AM PST

I am having a problem where whoever I am talking to temporarily cannot hear me. This seems to be sporadiac, it may not happen for a week, then happen every time I use the phone for a week, I have basically eliminated the phones as the source as I have changed them out etc.

I have a very basic setup, modem to router to phone/computer. I have used 5.8, and the DECT 6.0, and am experiencing the same problems. It occurs regardless of where I am in the house, on top of the phone base, or at the farthest distance away from the base.

Does nayone have experince with this problem, and possibly a solution ?

P.S. I my broadband service is through Insight Road Runner.

Good question, I have not tried that, as I am not sure how I would make a connection without the router being on. If my router and computer are not connected I have no phone connection at all.

You may have to tell more.

Why would a PC have to be on to use a phone?

I have a form of voip from someone and it's like this...

phones -> their box.

Sorry, I may not have been specific enough. The PC can be off, but the router cannot.

My set up goes:

cable outlet-->modem-->router-->PC
|
phone

Mine is similar.

Has this ever been solved??

I am having the exact same issue with my At&T callvantage service, and have for a few months now. They have sent me 3 new adapters so I know it is not the telephone adapter, it is not our phones I just cannot figure out what is happening.

I work from home, so this is my office line, and I need it work properly. I have had this service for almost 5 yrs now, and really do not want to give it up as I like the website and the features I can do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Their tech support cannot figure out what it is.
