Asus Z83V 17'' Sonoma white-box

Sep 22, 2005 5:43AM PDT

I found some pictures and specs for the new Asus Z83V, which no one knows about. The Z83V is ASUS's 17'' Sonoma platform white-box system, which is supposedly available now.

It has a 128MB ATI X700, built-in Bluetooth, wireless, and a TV turner with MCE-2005 support.

Essentially this is a white-box version of the W2V which is an Asus Ensemble 17" MCE laptop. Information on the W2 can be found here: http://pc11.flashecom.com/startech/showpages.asp?pid=1080

Why consider it?

No big savings, no one to support you.

Why do this?

Cheaper alternative

If you were considering the W2, this allows for a much cheaper configuration. The W2 ensemble is mostly unconfigurable, and from what I gather, most companies do not allow for customization.

Star Tech has posted a price of 1759.12 which is about $1000 cheaper than the base configured W2.

They also come with a 2 year warranty like most of the other Asus products, and are supported by the dealer.

Star Tech has a configurator of the Z83V up now. http://pc11.flashecom.com/startech/system_dept.asp?dept_id=SD-028
