Resolved Question

Asus Transformer Tablet or Asus Chromebook

Mar 26, 2014 7:40AM PDT

Quick tech poll:

I have a laptop that I quite like and is very powerful, but quite large. I am considering a second, cheap, small replacement for portable work. This would include primarily word processing, reading documents, and web browsing. I tend to spend a long time at coffee shops doing this sort of work, so comfort of use while typing is also a factor. I am considering between a chromebook ($270ish for the Asus C720 4gb memory) or the Asus transformer tablet TF700 32gb with docking station ($280).

Basically, the question is this: chromebook or tablet for work-focused, low-computer intensity applications in a portable, cheap format? I don't need to run any high-end or taxing programs, as those can be run on my real laptop. Thanks all!

Small world. At the office I have a tf300 and 2 chromebooks

For 270 I would shop for the touch screen Chromebook or just go cheap with the Chromebook for 160 at geeks.com today. However for about 270 we see an full up similar 11.6 inch A cer with 500GB HDD, and well I'll let you look for that.

Given the budget I would not consider the 2 models you listed but get the 270ish buck 11.6 mode at woot today. Why? I have access to all of them and that's my vote.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to edit this post. That should read "Acer Chromebook" in both the title and body.

You can't edit a post in our forums. That's why gwrach suggested it's better to check it before you submit it.
All we can do: delete it so you can start all over.

Then the Edit button shows. I know you're new to this forum, each differs.

The office ordered the 11.6 inch model I noted.

So it seems

Unfortunately, I didn't discover my error until I re-googled the item and realized I had written it down wrong. Alas, I could not correct the error. I prefer to have my title accurately reflect my question, in the event that others may find the question helpful. Oh well. Seems a little weird to remove editing capability, but I suppose cnet values historical accuracy in its forums?

I went to a Best Buy and tried the Acer you recommended and the two I mentioned. I didn't like the layout of the chromebook's keyboard, or the general feel of the OS, though I really appreciated the speed. They small keyboard on the tablet was odd, but the quality was surprisingly impressive. I think I will go with the Acer you recommended and try it out. Thanks for the help!
