Question

ASUS Q302L laptop won’t turn on

May 12, 2018 6:05PM PDT

My laptop hasn’t been turning on once I put it to sleep or once it is turned off so I looked up tips on how to make it start. I did the standard CMOS battery removal and disconnecting the main battery, and it turns on. However, I kept running into this issue. It is a hassle removing the bottom cover and disconnecting the battery every time I want to use my laptop. I bought a brand new battery to replace my old one and it seemed to be working just fine. Unfortunately, I am still having the same issue and cannot start my laptop without unplugging everything in the back. Any idea(s) what might be wrong and how to fix it?? Thanks

Buying a CMOS battery

Are there any recommended brands I should be looking for? Also, is buying it online a good option?

Sorry but our office buys them in bulk.

It's just a battery. 25 cents by the hundred, price goes up if you buy one like most. I've never thought about this much. I guess folk could worry about it?

Remember this is not a sure fix. But the cheapest thing it can be.

New CMOS & Main battery
Jun 14, 2018 6:53PM PDT

What may be the problem if the main battery and CMOS battery do not resolve the issue?
I need to unplug both and “drain the juice” by pressing the power button every time. Even when that is done, it cannot be turned on without the charger being plugged in. In some cases, it even turns on (after the whole process) without me pressing the power button.

What's next.

I check out the charger with a Volt meter and watch the laptop for signs it is charging to sniff out if there is a power issue. After that the usual fix is a new motherboard.

Why we change the CMOS battery is that's under a dollar (we buy in bulk) and the motherboard runs 200 and up not counting labor which is 150 here.

Given the disparity of what else it can be I often wonder why a tech wants to avoid replacing the dollar part given what's next runs into the hundreds.

Remove the battery.
Look at the number on the bottom.
If it's a cr2032 go to your local market or pharmacy and buy one.
