ASUS K52Jc. Help please.

Sep 21, 2010 7:56AM PDT

Hi. I own a 15.6" ASUS K52Jc laptop. I used to be able to use two fingers to scroll down over the track pad, but now it isn't working. I didn't turn anything off. Please help.

Another problem is the laptop "turning off". If I leave it closed for a few hours, even though I have it on the setting that never turns the computer off, it shuts down. Please help.

Manual
Sep 21, 2010 8:44AM PDT

The manual, such as it is, says:

"Customize the touchpad?s behavior in Windows Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse"

The little graphics they show for the multi-touch mouse make it appear that one finger is slightly higher on the touchpad than the other finger. In other words, I guess they're trying to say that positioning one finger slightly higher than another when scrolling will let the touchpad distinguish between two fingers and one?

As far as it shutting down, there are options for both power in general and power when the lid is closed, usually. Look at this entire web page to see if there are options you haven't set yet:

I know how to do that. The problem is that one day the touchpad just stopped working. Ideas?

Function Key combo ("Fn")
Sep 22, 2010 1:00AM PDT

Fn key + F9 key locks/unlocks touchpad. Press the Fn+F9 combo once: Lock. Press combo again: Unlock. Sounds like you may have pressed that combo by mistake somehow.

What about the power down while lid closed? Did you read the link?

Lid

It doesn't power off if I close the lid, but when I leave it down for a few hours it will go to sleep, I believe. When I come back to the laptop, the little green light that is under the battery is on, but no others are.

When did this happen? You can always do a "System Restore" inside Windows 7 and pick a day as close to but not after the problem occurred to restore the system. If this is a driver issue or some inadvertent setting, doing the System Restore should remedy it.

To be clear, let's say you know for a fact that this touchpad thing started happening on September 19th. I would try and restore (via the System Restore calendar) to September 18th. You don't want to go back any further than you have to.

While I'm sure you know this, I offer these System Restore instructions just in case:
