Resolved Question

ASUS K51AC hdd problem?

Aug 15, 2011 2:39AM PDT

Hi all, Hope anyone can help me wit this.

I have Asus K51AC laptop 18 months old with Windows Vista Home Premium OEM license on it, i never had a problem with it. One thing bothers me and i cant figure it out.
When the system is starting (booting) HDD led blinks (normaly) and there is hdd activity, but this activity (LED blinking never stops *approx 2 blinks per second*) is even when i do absolutely nothing (ok system is, but this much?).
I used every possible tools to optimize system , fix errors , defragment but still its blinking (doing something in background)
I turned off indexing, windows defender, no help. Fresh system (full format of hdd) didnt help also. I even tried 30 day trial of win 7 home premium but still the same.
Then i tested hard drive with Hitachi DFT (i have hitachi 250 gb sata on asus) all is green , no errors, drive is in perfect state, s.m.a.r.t. readings are also perfect.
Thing is everything works well.... no problems with performance.. i just dont know what is it doing....(looks like file transfer activity) .....(maybe all asus laptops works like this???)
I hope you could help me clarify this..... thanx in advance

The "two blinks a second" might ...

be a clue if you actually meant a blink every two seconds.

Auto insert notification for the CD/DVD is the normal cause.

To get Autorun off, use Notepad to create a file called Autorun0ff.reg that contains the following lines in bold text (note, the file should contain a carriage return after the final 0) :

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom]
"AutoRun"=dword:00000000

and run it by double clicking on Autorun0ff.reg in Explorer (or simply edit the registry manually).

Note: If you replace the final 0 by 1, you'll get Autorun on.
