Question

ASUS G771JW-T7028H vs G551JW-CN180H

Hello,

I am out for a new gaming laptop and my choice is all set for a ROG series from ASUS but I have a hard time deciding between these two.

The only difference between the two seems to be the screen size as one is 15.6 and other is 17.3. I have always used 15.6 so I am a little unsure what the experience is with using slightly bigger.

Please share your reviews, experiences and suggestions based on which one to go for, although from my point of view the specs are similar but if you feel i am wrong in something then please correct me. Which one of them would be the better choice overall?

Thank you.

Answer
The size rule?

If it's for a student, 15 or even smaller as the big laptops tend to suffer more as they are moved daily.

If it's for others the question is more about use. If you are planning to travel with your laptop, 15 or smaller. If it's a desktop replacement that will sit on it's cooling pad for 99% of the time, why not 17?

The size rule?

It mostly is a desktop replacement which wont be used for travelling on day to day basis but once in a while so for portability i know what you mean. I meant more about the experience of using a 17.3" screen as compared to 15.6". Is it more pleasant to have a larger screen etc

Also for the performance between these two, which one is better? Except that G551JW comes with an SSD.

My wife has her 17 inch laptop.

It sits on a desk on the cooling pad with the only work for me being the usual 1st of the month canned air. Just last month I cloned the HDD to SSD and essentially it's a new machine for her. So yes to SSD if you want the best a PC can be.

As to other comparisons did you see if notebookcheck did reviews? They usually are good enough to pick out the differences.

I didn't do that since the models you noted look like a series so I can't look them up and be sure I got the right ones.

Sorry. You did call out full model #'s

Try looking them up on notebookcheck. But in this case, the 17 may be the winner.

The size rule?

Also do you know whether G771JW is a dual-fan design or does it have 1 fan only?

That's for the maker to answer.

Here I don't use that in my decision process. I get to a notebookcheck review to see the temps in the review and in spite of that, place it on a cooling pad.
