To those that back up. The maxim is this -> Hard disks are temporary storage. If you don't believe this, I just need to wait a little longer...
At any time, when we perform ANY procedure that seems to have a risk, we should ask if we are ready for the hard disk contents to vanish.
Backup is very cheap compared to recovery.
Bob
earlier today I posted an SOS concerning batteries not
recognized by winXPpro
Bob Proffitt already provided some hope, mentioning that
in some cases installation of appropriate drivers and/or
upgrade of BIOS will help, but Bob also explained he could
not help more without a description of specific notebooks.
On my wife's notebook the primary battery is NO LONGER
seen by the OS. She has a Compaq Evo N410c (bought in USA)
with winXPpro.
My notebook is ASUS M6736RUH (bought in Europe), also
with winXPpro, and mine does see the primary battery
but never saw the recently purchased "second battery"
(the battery for the modular bay)
If there are known issues with batteries and these
computers please let me know.
I will contact ASUS to see if they know of a problem
with their "seocndary batteries" that requires upgrading
BIOS or some new drivers.
If I upgrade BIOS (I think I did it already once some 3 years
ago on another laptop) what are the risks of loosing files?
I am even more puzzled by my wife's notebook: the battery was
seen just fine for several months and then all of a sudden
it disappeared...could it be that the BIOS or a driver got
damaged ... (I am speaking out of complete ignorance...forgive...)
regards
Giovanni
