Assigning outlook 2003 tasks to others

Mar 24, 2006 2:53AM PST

The recipients of my emails assigning a task to others cannot be opened - accordingly the recipient can not accept or reject the task. The recipient uses outlook 2003 also.

Is there a setting the recipient has to change to allow this - the task can be read in the outlook reading pane but will not iopen when I double click on the header.

Tx for any help you can offer!!

Robin

My Outlook has the same problem
Apr 7, 2006 8:24AM PDT

I have tried all the updates, tried to fix with the original 2003 disk, etc.

I can receive and send tasks via email, but once it arrives on either end, it's "dead". Totally can not accept or decline.

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Assigning Outlook Tasks
Apr 8, 2006 10:22AM PDT

Rich - Tx for your note - I guess I'm not crazy!!

I use Outlook exchange server at work - it has no problems - at the same time, I'm sure that I've assigned or recieved tasks in the past where exchange server has NOT been used.

I've recently installed Microsoft.NET framework 1.2 - I'm not sure that this isn't the problem. I'll try "rolling back" to 1.11 and if that works I'll let you know!!

Help
May 20, 2006 5:14AM PDT

Hello,

Has anyone come across a solution? I can assign tasks but people can no longer accept them and it is creating havoc at work.

We are all using Outlook 2003 and are running Windows XP.

Any help or guidance would be a real blessing.

Thank you.

Assigning Outlook Tasks to Others
May 29, 2007 8:00AM PDT

I too have the same problem and have been searching for a solution for months. The explanation of the cause of the problem I have found on MS user forums is that the problem is actually caused by Outlook security patches downloaded from their own update site. The drastic solution is to remove these security updates - but this leaves you exposed to various security weakness's I have 2 PCs running Ofice2003 and have removed patches from one of them and NEW task assignments do now work but still with some gremlins. Alledgedly this problem is well known to MS and indeed they have a Hotfix for it. One US user who somehow had telephone access to MS support claimed to have the Hotfix emailed to them by MS. I am UK based and unfortunately have not been able to find a number for support. If any of you US users have such access (you lucky people)and can download this Hotfix maybe you could email it to your cousins across the pond!

Outlook Task Assignment Broken by Microsoft
May 31, 2007 6:39AM PDT

It took me a while to figure this one out.
On January 9th or 10th of 2007, Microsoft released a series of security updates. On some PCs, it works fine. On others, the update generally appears that its been installed TWICE, and it kills the normal operation of Outlook. To Fix:

Go into Control Panel/Add & Remove Programs.
[x] Show Updates box must be checked.
(go get cup of coffee while list loads)
Scroll Down to Microsoft Office or Microsoft Outlook installation.
Look through the updates.
Updates titled "Security Update for Outlook 2003"
click on, click on more info, click web link.
If it bring you to a webpage with release date of 1/9 1/10 2007,
tell it to un-install that security patch.
I got rid of both entries.

that Should be it.
It does NOT fix any previously sent Tasks (delete those),
but all NEW ones should start working.
